  5. Is there such a thing? That would indeed be nice, but dangerous as well. Imagine if all those psycho-lunatics out there have the same kind of freedom....

  6. It's also the rebelliousness of the teenager to break away from the old ways, to move on and start anew... we are all "soul rebels" as the great man would say... Bob Marley...



    And it's also the paradox of love... love binds and love frees. And like the paradox of expectation that I was discussing on my June Dreams blog, and the paradox of satisfaction, the way to resolving it is through distinguishing subjective and objective...so for example, when things are or are not going to plan, this is subjective satisfaction or dissatisfaction, but we still maintain self-belief, the objective satisfaction.

    As for freedom, I remember something Hanakia said to Cyn... to be completely free, "costs nothing, but you must give up everything". Objectively, you give up nothing, but all the subjective attachments are what prevent us from being free. So, the freedom comes from within...

    But, now Jach's comment throws up another paradox... perhaps it only starts from within... because it seems he might not be free to even read the above... I did use the word "freedom"... is that not allowed in some places even in a song?

    So all the above must be about "freedom of the spirit". So, it's a deal Shahrizat, we keep the psycho-lunatics locked up... but then who's to judge objectively who the lunatics are? Some would treat whole populations that way... perhaps individuals who have been proven through their actions to be a physical danger to others... that's all the philosophers, most of the poets and half the musicians then, lol. Come to think of it, the lunatics are the ones who are "already free", so maybe freedom isn't something we should aspire to after all. (That last sentence will be music to the ears of the sensas so hopefully Jach will be able to read now the musings of the lunatic that is really okei.)

  7. I think the lunatics... or at least the ones that hurt others are imprisioned by their subjective issues...

    To be free, means there is no reason to hurt others...


    But I must address what hana said and why it is much more difficult than it appears...


    We are social animals. We run in packs. To give up everything means giving up the pack. When one has children, that is not an option. ;-)

  8. Yes, Cyn, our attachments seem to define who we are, give us direction and purpose... so we probably can't do without them. But maybe we need to distinguish between "pure" objective attachments and subjective attachments... whatever that might mean? Perhaps the key is concentration?

    The problem with teenagers and parents is the balance of power, the feeling of a lack of freedom on the part of teenagers and an unwillingness of parents to give that freedom, to let go... is the parent's attachment pure or subjective? It's probably difficult to be pure in this kind of relationship...

    Crash barriers are erected for the teenager's own protection, but at some point the teenager has to "take possession" of their own crash barriers, take responsibility, rules need to become agreements, and the "handover of power" is always a tricky time for both...

  11. My mom used to say that a parent-child relationship is like playing kites. You let them fly high but sometimes the wind gets too turbulent or change directions causing the kite to become unstable and start to swoop down... and that's when you reel the string in a little, give it a few tugs until they stabilize and then they can fly even higher.

  14. Indeed, what I'd said to please the sensas was all wrong. So freedom begins with overcoming subjective issues...

    So what makes an issue or attachment "subjective"... ? How to distinguish these which we would like to let go of from the "objective" attachments which define us and give life meaning.

    For example, "being there for your children" is to me to be a very pure form of objective attachment. But how about worrying about them? Can worry be objective? It seems to me it most definitely could be ... so how to pin down exactly what these subjective attachments are that we should be letting go of...

    (As I am just a fellow traveler in this life as you and learning as I go.)

    I think everything is subjective. All of our perceptions are formed by our own points of view.


    I try very hard not to take things personally realizing that everyone else is subjective too.

    So that life often is just learning what each other's points are...and respecting it. It gets sticky when raising children.

    The first thing i realized is that all of their successes are their successes, therefore all of their failures are their failures. I may have been able to prevent the failures, but then what would they learn from that?


    Very difficult to do this. The only area I did not was in areas of their safety and school

    My youngest is a night owl.

    I let her learn what it felt like to get up exhausted and go to school...

    She could stay up ... she could go to sleep.. she just had to go to school.


    Eventually she learned sleeping was a better option.


    With teens, you have to let them makes mistakes. I told her and my oldest. Make your mistakes while you are young, because when you are older they have more repercussions.... thanks goodness neither became pregnant.. that would not have been a good mistake as a young person. ;-)


    The other thing about morality...


    Another good example...

    I never did it that way. I do not know what I did there to be honest. But I think my girls make good choices and not from fear but compassion. I think that must be modeled .... kids learn by what a parent does. not what they say.
